114-0966: Crankshaft Gear

The external spur gear crankshaft is a cylindrical toothed gear with teeth parallel to the shaft and is used to transfer mechanical motion as well as control speed, power, and torque between shafts. A crankpin journal is a precision ground surface that provides a rotating pivot point to attach the connecting rod to the crankshaft gear. There are gears at both ends of the crankshaft, the front gear turns the timing chain thereby controlling valve motion. The Spur gears are the most extensively used gear type. They are cylindrical with straight teeth formed along the lateral surface of the cylinder. Spur gears can be external or internal. Attributes: • Crankshaft gears are to give a smoother drive to the vast motors with multi-cylinders. • Provides smooth running of an engine. Applications: An external spur crankshaft is used in all engines.
