Description: An aftercooler also known as an intercooler, is a device used to cool the compressed air that comes out of a turbocharger or a supercharger in an internal combustion engine. This cooled air is denser, allowing for more fuel to be burned and thus increasing engine power. It is a heat exchanger made up of a series of thin tubes or passages, with fins attached to the tubes to increase their surface area. Attributes: • Contains a series of fins that help to dissipate heat from the compressed air. • Mounted to the engine using mounting points. • withstand the vibration and thermal stresses of the engine compartment. Applications: An aftercooler is used to reduce emissions by lowering the temperature of the compressed air, which decreases the likelihood of pre-ignition or knocking. It is extensively used in Cat D10T Track Type Tractors.
