479-2095: High Sulfur Engine Migration

This Caterpillar authorized reconfiguration is for used Hydraulic Excavators (equipped with U.S. EPA Tier 4 Interim/EU Stage IIIB/Japan 2011 (Tier 4 Interim)*engines) migrating to unregulated regions where Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel (15/10 ppm sulfur) is unavailable. Historically, many used Cat machines from highly regulated countries have eventually migrated to lesser and unregulated countries via the used machine market. During this retrofit, the aftertreatment is removed to enable a used 316E or 318E machine to operate with higher sulfur fuel while maintaining fuel efficiency and machine performance. This retrofit is only to be applied to used Tier 4 Interim machines operating in unregulated territories. New Tier 4 Interim machines must not be sold or relocated directly into areas with higher sulfur fuels. Note: This modification permanently invalidates all emissions certifications. The machine does not reduce from Tier 4 to Tier 3. The machine becomes completely "decertified". The modified machine is relabeled and can never again be used anywhere emissions certification is required. Dealers need to understand their local emissions requirements for used equipment to ensure this kit installation will not violate local requirements.
