The Spring Brake Actuator consists of a spring, piston, and valve. The spring is what provides the force that is used to apply the brakes. When the brake pedal is pressed, compressed air is released into the actuator, which compresses the spring. This force is then used to move the actuator piston, which applies the brakes. The actuator piston is what moves the brake pads into contact with the brake disc. When the spring is compressed, the actuator piston moves forward. The valve controls the flow of compressed air into the actuator. When the brake pedal is pressed, the valve opens, allowing compressed air to flow into the actuator.
