A Governor Spring is coiled into a spiral shape and attached to the governors arm at one end and to the engine block at the other end. The amount of force generated by the Spring is directly proportional to the deflection. The spring rate determines the amount of force exerted for a given amount of deflection, and the overall stiffness of the spring.
