090-3178: Needle Roller Bearing

Needle Roller bearings, often referred to as rolling-element bearings, are made to support a load while reducing friction, just like ball bearings. They are designed to transmit loads using cylinder rolling elements to maintain the separation between moving parts of the bearing. The needles are held in place by a cage or retainer, which also keeps them evenly spaced around the periphery of the shaft. Attributes: • Has linear contact areas with outer rings to distribute loads on larger surface areas. • Designed to reduce friction and improve efficiency. • Provides high radial stiffness. • Designed to operate in high-temperature environments. Applications: A Needle Bearing is used to prevent direct metal-to-metal contact between two elements that are in relative motion. This prevents friction, heat generation, and ultimately, the wear and tear of parts. It also reduces energy consumption as sliding motion is replaced with low-friction rolling.
