364-9700: Continuous Variable Transmission

A Continuous Variable Transmission provides a stepless variation in the transmission ratio between the engine and the wheels. It operates by using a pair of variable-diameter pulleys connected by a belt or chain. One pulley known as the input pulley connected to the engine and the other pulley is linked to the wheels. The effective gear ratio changes continuously as the diameters of the pulley vary.
