An Auxiliary Pump is a centrifugal pump that is used to circulate sea water as a part of a cooling system. It consists of four main components: impeller, casing, suction pipe, and delivery pipe. The rotating action of the impeller is responsible for changing the energy of the continuously flowing seawater. Attributes: • Rotation is counterclockwise • Runs at high speed and hence can be coupled to the prime mover • Weight per unit discharge is less Applications: An Auxiliary Pump is used in a Cooling System to pump seawater directly into a chamber, known as a Water jacket, that surrounds engine cylinders.
