Description: The Intermediate piston rings are used in internal combustion engines, specifically in lean-burn engines. The intermediate piston ring is located between the top and oil control rings and functions to seal the combustion gases and oil from entering the crankcase. These engines operate with an excess of air to achieve high fuel efficiency, which can result in a reduction of the temperatures in the combustion chamber.
